Les salaires français constituent entre la Libération et l'année 1968, une veritable sphère salariale élaborée à travers la généralisation des conventions collectives. Ils forment la majorité du revenu primaire des ménages, les deux tiers de la valeur ajoutée des entreprises et la moitié du PIB. Leur organisation est alors caractéristique de celle des pays libéraux avancés et leur croissance est rapide (4% par an). L'existence de modes d'ajustement pluriels (conventions collectives, politiques publiques de libéralisme dirigeì, assurances sociales généralisées et juridictions prud'homales) tempèrent l'impression première de relations sociales tendues. Depuis les années 1980, l'érosion ou l'inflexion de ce système salarial à la fois libéral et social, qui a trouvé son apogée dans la haute croissance de 1950-1973, n'entame pas l'essentiel de son organisation.

Assembling Japan focuses on Japan's modernization as a long-term process that is reliant on changing technology and that has led to the nation's full engagement with the global system. This process forms a complex field of tensions, full of interesting dynamisms and synergies that can be best understood through the book's methodology: anthropological analysis combined with historical contextualization. The approaches in this collection are manifold. Some chapters examine the themes of modernity, technology and Japan's global experience though popular culture, from reggae to football, from television to film. Other topics include coffee, travel, economics, cultural politics and technological innovation in the field of robotics. All of the contributions aim to show how these global interactions have occurred and continue to take place in twenty-first-century Japan.

In this book, the author presents a detailed study of the notion of conscience from the perspective of its historical development and existential environment. The purpose of the study is to highlight conscience's dignity and fallibility, as well as its dependence upon the context of virtue and grace, in order to develop as our capacity to perceive the truth in moral action. Starting from the premise that current moral theory is suffering from fragmentation, the author proposes that this fragmented outlook has affected the common understanding of conscience and is therefore in need of renewal, chiefly in terms of the reintegration of conscience with its proper setting. In order to explore this theory, he investigates how conscience has been understood over the centuries, particularly in the New Testament and during the Scholastic period, and analyses a number of important issues concerning its nature and function.

Immigration has become a contentious issue in Europe in recent decades, with immigrants being accused of resisting integration and threatening the secular fabric of nationhood. The most extreme form of this unease has invented and demonized an Islamic `other' within Europe. This book poses central questions about this global staging of difference. How has such anxiety increased exponentially since 9/11? Why has the Muslim veil been singled out as a metaphor in debates about citizenship? Lastly, and most fundamentally, who sets the criteria for constructing the ideal citizen? This study explores the issue of gender and immigration in the national contexts of Germany and France, where the largest minority populations are from Turkey and North Africa, respectively. The author analyzes fictional works by the Turkish-German writers Emine Sevgi Özdamar and Zafer Senocak and by Francophone writer Malika Mokeddem. All three deconstruct binary oppositions and envision an alternate third space that allows them to break out of the confines of organized religion. In the latter part of the book, the voices of young Muslim women are foregrounded through interviews. The concluding chapter on the pedagogical tool Deliberative Dialogue suggests ways to navigate such contentious issues in the Humanities classroom.

La contribution de ce volume consiste à s'adresser aux questions que provoque l'émergence du théâtre européen, mais surtout le théâtre français, dans le contexte d'un urbanisme grandissant. Dès le XVIe siècle, la ville et ses habitants sont témoins d'une évolution de plus en plus importante concernant l'architecture et la vie humaine. C'est en grande partie à travers le genre comique que ce livre explore ces transformations, selon les perspectives diversifiées que la ville produit à une époque de mutations sociales et d'expansion démographique rapide. L'identité de la ville en scène se construit tantôt par les possibilités de mouvement pour les citadins en allant d'un quartier à l'autre, tantôt par le passage de la ville à la campagne, tantôt par les possibilités de se rencontrer offertes par les foules et par les occasions sociales. Alors, la sociabilité comme elle est représentée sur la scène suscite non seulement le besoin de créer et de mettre en oeuvre de nouvelles formes d'interaction humaine, mais aussi amène à réfléchir, implicitement ou explicitement, sur les valeurs qui s'y associent. Enfin, l'aspect imposant de la nouvelle ville invite à mettre en scène de manière imaginative cet environnement urbain. Le théâtre invente donc la ville en en faisant l'un de ses principaux personnages.
